Practical guide

Settling in Ankara

From the airport to residence permits and dorm applications — short, usable notes.

From Esenboga into the city

Esenboga (ESB) is about 40–50 minutes to the center. HAVAS/BelkoAir buses reach ASTI and Kizilay. For late arrivals, confirm a dorm or hotel address first and check taxi fares in-app. High-speed train arrivals connect from Ankara Gar via metro/Ankaray toward Besevler–Kizilay.

Ankarakart & lines

Ankarakart covers metro (M1–M4), Ankaray, buses and some dolmus lines. Student fares need a university student ID. Campus shuttles for METU and Bilkent get busy at term start. Besevler, Sihhiye and Kizilay are key transfer points.

Residence permit (overview)

After admission, applications go through e-ikamet. Appointments, insurance and address rules change — follow Migration Management and your university’s international office. This is not legal advice.

Monthly cost ranges

Dorm: roughly 3,500–10,500 TRY · Groceries: 2,500–4,500 TRY · Transport: 400–900 TRY. Figures move by season; trust the dorm site’s current price.

Documents dorms often ask for

Passport, admission/student letter, ID photo, and visa/residence printouts if any. Some dorms ask for a guarantor or extra deposit. Confirm on the dorm’s site.
